Settling in

So today was my second day in Oxford. we began the day around ten this morning with a group bike ride from The Vines, where we are staying, to the Bodlian Library. THis was an experience, riding downtown around rush hour in Oxford since I haven't ridden a bike since I was a kid. I may try to walk from now on since it was a bit overwhelming but hopefully I will be able to grow accustomed to it. Once at he Bodlian, we recieved our library cards and now have Free use of the library. It is exciting and a bit overwhelming all at once. The library has over eleven million books and has so many that they have to use a storage facility outside of Oxford to store most of their material. In order to check out a book, you have to order it, which could take a few days so you cannot procrastinate with books. I have not toured the entirety of the library yet, but plan to try on Saturday (apparently the London trip is next Saturday). After the Bodlian, we went to Wycliffe hall, which is the college, or, more accurately, Permanant Private Hall (PPH), we are studying at. They are called PPHs becasue as a religiious college they feel that it would be sacrificing their integrity to be too closely associated with a secular university. We then attended orientation classes (during the middle of which we broke for tea). After the classes we were free to make our way home or do as we liked. We decided to walk around a bit before heading home and ended up eating dinner at Eagle and Child, the pub downtown which is famous for serving Tolken, C. S. Lewis, and the Inklings. I got my first English fish and chips and thought it was pretty good (for someone who is not a huge fan of fish). We begin early again tomorrow so good night!
